Case Study
Superhero Design System
Role:
Product Designer ( UI Lead )
Team:
Superhero
Problem:
When I joined Superhero the team had no design system, resulting in an inconsistent appearance and experience in the product. The lack of design system also caused communication problems for developers and designers that lead to an inefficient workflow.
Process:
Determined to elevate the design quality, I developed a comprehensive design system from scratch. This involved establishing foundational guidelines such as colour, type, and grid systems, as well as creating each individual component and system. A major challenge was building the system to accommodate future growth while also working backwards to include all undocumented design decisions that were in the product.
Results:
With the implementation of a thorough design system, Superhero now boasts consistent UI designs and screens across all channels. This has dramatically improved the efficiency of the design process, allowing UX designers to utilise pre-built templates from our library to kickstart their designs. The design system has significantly improved developers' workflow too by providing access to all design information, streamlining their tasks and allowing them to focus on feature implementation. The end result is a much smoother and streamlined workflow that has had a direct impact on the overall user experience. Thanks to this design system, putting together final screens is now an easier and more efficient process, enabling us to focus more on the bigger picture of creating exceptional user experiences.
